A boring film with pacing issues, weak acting, bland characters and no sense of urgency or peril. The overall plot is weak and introduces the science-based vampire angle only to quickly disregard any form of science. The pacing is all over, and never allows time to connect with the characters. (And then there’s the tacked-on police detectives that ultimately add nothing to the story.) The effects are unremarkable, and all the vampire antics use the some smokey effect no matter what power they’re using. There’s really no ticking clock or dastardly deed by the villain that feels like it drives the “hero.” It all wraps up with an emotionless and abrupt ending, followed by two mid-credits scenes that make no sense.
