A visually appealing film with a strong soundtrack that is mostly entertaining despite a mediocre script and bland characters. The plot isn’t anything particularly special and mostly results in a poorly paced chase film. Any real attempts at deeper messages about what it means to be truly alive are only surface level. The acting is fine for the story that they’re telling, with only Evan Peter’s character really having any hint of charisma. The film looks pretty cool, but none of the redesigns of classic “Tron” tech really looks like they were yanked from inside a digital world. The action is mostly just passable, but the visual effects add some awesome flare. The soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails works overall, but sometimes when it plays over parts of the story that take place in the real world, it comes off a little heavy-handed. (It does fit much better later in the film when things pickup.)
