An overall fun film that is surprisingly predictable, even with the plot twists. While the film starts off in a bit of an unexpected direction, it eventually hits a point where the major story beats can be deduced from what was shown in the film’s trailers. There’s a fairly big reveal late in the movie, and even that barely changes the Carol Danvers’ story arc. Brie Larson is great as Danvers, showing toughness and charm throughout. The rest of the cast is solid, although Ben Mendelsohn’s villainous Talos, (and the Skrulls in general) become less and less intimidating as the story progresses. The action scenes are a bit lacking overall. Even the big final battle is somewhat anti-climactic, especially with Danvers’ almost demi-god like powers making her seem invincible. The humor works for the most part, although it feels forced at times. The effects look good overall, especially the de-aged Samuel L. Jackson, but some shots of Danvers in action and an obvious CGI cat look noticeably off. There is a mid-credits and an post-credits scene. The first is really cool, but the second can be skipped if you weren’t that into the overall film.
