A generally entertaining, but somewhat flat, film. The plot is just mediocre. Pacing problems aside, there’s just something that never quite clicks with the story. Even though a lot of time is spent introducing the various characters, things still feel rushed. And as the movie continues on, the characterizations don’t get any better. Despite the… Read More: Movie Review: X-Men: Apocalypse »
An enjoyable film that juggles multiple characters and provides amazing action, but is hurt by a somewhat flimsy payoff. Like the first “Avengers” movie, every major character gets their chance to shine. Not only that, their personalities that have been established over the course of the many Marvel films makes their motivations logical based on… Read More: Movie Review: Captain America: Civil War »
A unique concept, filled with almost non-stop action, that overstays its welcome halfway through. As many others have described this film, it is an attempt to replicate first-person action games as a feature-length film. While there are some great action sequences and a few other moments that make good use of this format, there’s not… Read More: Movie Review: Hardcore Henry »
A tedious build up to the satisfying main event, with some tantalizing hints at what’s to come, create an uneven film that mostly gives what the audience has been waiting for. Even with a two and a half hour running time, there’s just not enough room for everything they wanted to cram into the story.… Read More: Movie Review: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice »
A funny and extremely violent superhero film, weakened a bit by style over substance, but is still very entertaining. This film is R-Rated and deserves the rating. The violence borders on cartoony, but the language and sexual content are what make this inappropriate for most children. Ryan Reynolds, as expected, is perfect as Deadpool. His… Read More: Movie Review: Deadpool »
Great film that combines nostalgia with new elements to recapture the magic of the earlier Star Wars films. The movie relies heavily on the story structure of the previous opening chapters of the first film in a trilogy. While this has worked well in the past and works here, there is a line they come… Read More: Movie Review: Star Wars: The Force Awakens »
While not deviating much from the standard boxing movie formula made popular by “Rocky,” this film does a good job of making a name for itself. Michael B. Jordan is strong in the lead role, although at times he keeps things a bit too close to the vest. It’s only late in the movie does… Read More: Movie Review: Creed »
After a slow start, some late suspense and action save this film from ending the “Hunger Games” franchise on a boring and drab note. I have never read any of the “Hunger Games” novels and have only seen each of the previous films once, so this review will reflect that. The film starts off a… Read More: Movie Review: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 2 »
Another solid entry to the Bond franchise, but it never manages to elevate itself enough to become something more memorable. As it has been with the other more recent films, Daniel Craig’s portrayal of James Bond is what carries the movie. And once again, it succeeds. His Bond has a quiet strength mixed with a… Read More: Movie Review: Spectre »
A fairly strong beginning is thrown off course by an odd middle-section, and then finally completely derailed by a weak climax. Early on in the film, we‘re introduced to a nuanced Reed Richards. His friendship with Ben Grimm continues to move the plot along, and then unfortunately Ben is suddenly dropped out of the film… Read More: Movie Review: Fantastic Four (2015) »
