My Top 5 Best Films of 2024
I’m pretty picky about what movies I go see in the theater, and I mostly watch superhero movies and action flicks, so there’s probably some great movies not on my list because I didn’t see them. This list is definitely more my favorite movies of the year and not the “best” of 2024.

5. Twisters – More of a “happening in the same universe” instead of a sequel, the film captures the general mayhem of the first film, but it doesn’t break much new ground visually and it takes a little too long for the characters to grow on you.
4. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – A fun ride thanks to some entertaining performances and wild action sequences that is hampered by an overly-long runtime and a reliance on more obvious CG compared to the previous film.
3. Alien: Romulus – A nice callback to the original “Alien” films that also includes nods to the prequels and creates a great new character, but it copies too much of what came before instead of forging its own path.
2. Dune: Part Two – More great storytelling and visuals, but despite the film feeling like it goes on forever, major portions feel rushed.
1. Deadpool & Wolverine – Some great character chemistry, strong emotional beats and hilarious moments cover for the lackluster villains and a plot that doesn’t give you much more than you would expect from the trailers.

Animated Shorts: Hits from the Gong episode 4
The final animated short for now. I tried out a couple of new tricks with this one.
My Top 5 Worst Films of 2024
I try to avoid movies that don’t look good to me, so this is more about my least favorite movies I saw this year. It gets tricky to rank some of these, and sometimes it just boils down to which ones I rather watch again if I had to.

5. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire – Somewhat forgettable story, flat humor and weak supernatural elements can’t
be saved by a generous use of legacy characters.
4. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire – A decent Kong film with some fun action, but not only do the human characters feel shoehorned in, but so does Godzilla…and his name is in the title.
3. Kraven the Hunter – Despite some cool and bloody action sequences, everything else falls flat thanks to characters that you don’t care about or characters that are just corny. Even those violent action moments have no real bite to them.
2. Joker: Folie à Deux – A mediocre prison drama, mixed with a hugely disappointing court room drama and a half-assed musical would be hard enough to overcome, but the total disrespect towards what everyone liked about the first film is what truly sinks this project.
1. Madame Web – Despite a few hints of a more interesting film, the weak acting, terrible script, bad ADR and overall bad execution turned this into a complete mess. And it was borderline insulting the way it tries to have its cake and eat it to by being and not being a Spider-Man film.
